Gharb was created a parish in 1679, a move which gave impetus for the building of a new, baroque style church. The ancient roots of the village can be clearly seen in the centre of the village where some of the houses have fine examples of decorated stone balconies. The central village square is so typical of Gozo that it has become the view on many a postcard. based in the square is a fascinating folklore museum showing all kinds of memorabilia of the island's history.
