Gharb The village of Gharb is in the northwest of Gozo and is the location of one of the most beautiful and architecturally perfect churches in the Maltese Islands. At the heart of Gharb is a very picturesque square which has been used on many postcards. As well as a local supermarket and a couple of local bars and restaurants, Gharb is also the location of a folklore museum which is set in a 28 room house dating from the early 18th Century. A must-see for any holidaymakers to Gharb is the magnificent view from the Ta Ghammar hill. The capital, Victoria and the fishing village of Mgarr are only a 10 minute drive from Gharb.
Gharb Lying on the west of the island, this typical Goztan village is surrounded by some of the most delightful countryside, particularly Dbieg, the highest hill on the island. Gharb was created a parish in 1679, a move which gave impetus for the building of a new, baroque style church. The ancient roots of the village can be clearly seen in the centre of the village where some of the houses have fine examples of decorated stone balconies. The central village square is so typical of Gozo that it has become the view on many a postcard. based in the square is a fascinating folklore museum showing all kinds of memorabilia of the island's history. At nearby Dbieg is a centre for Gozitan crafts. The Chapel of St. Dimitri lies within the bounds of Gharb and nearby is the Basilica ta'Pinu, Malta's pre-eminent shrine to the Virgin Mary. It was on this spot in 1883 that a local woman is said to have heard the voice of Our Lady. We have 5 villas in Gharb. | | |
