| The beautiful island of Lanzarote enjoys an average year-round temperature of 22c, making it a popular destination for beach lovers and sun worshippers. There is a fantastic choice of beaches, all with crystal clear waters, inviting you to step in for a refreshing dip. Playa Grande beach is located right in the centre of Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote’s most lively resort. This popular beach is over one kilometre long and has shower and changing facilities, as well as various water sports and pedalos for hire. Also in Puerto del Carmen are the beaches of Matagorda Los Pocillos, they have a long stretch of fine gold sand and a cooling breeze. Los Charcos beach in Costa Teguise is a 300 metre long, white sand beach with calm waters. A windsurfing hotspot on the island is Las Cucharas beach; sports equipment can be hired for a small charge and there are plenty of sun beds and parasols laid out along the golden sand. Still in Costa Teguise is El Jabillo beach, this beach is very windy but the sea is calm and tranquil. Lanzarote’s southern resort of Playa Blanca also has an excellent selection of beaches to tempt you. The most fabulous being the natural reserve of Papagayo, which are considered the best beaches in Lanzarote because of its unspoilt, natural golden dunes and calm turquoise waters. Parts of the Papagayo beaches are very popular with naturists, due to its remote and peaceful location. Playa Dorada is a man made, white sand picture-perfect beach with wheelchair access and a beach bar. Another purpose built beach in the centre of Playa Blanca is horseshoe-shaped Playa Flamingo; it has a calm lagoon of shallow water, perfect for young children to play in. The north of Lanzarote has a variety of natural beaches in unspoilt terrain. Extremely popular with surfers on the island, Famara beach is over 6 kilometres of beautiful golden sand, excellent waves and local surf shops hiring out different types of equipment for every level of surfer. In the small town of Arrieta is the golden beach of La Garita, here the sea is calm and there is a small selection of traditional ‘tapas’ restaurants and children’s play area. Caleton Blanco near the northern town of Orzola is a small beach, covered in white sand and black lava rock. These natural lagoons of still water are well worth a visit. Famara Beach, Lanzarote
